Why this exists
After seven years in Silicon Valley building products used by billions, I moved back to Chicago and started thinking differently about how I wanted to spend my time.
It's easy to fill a calendar, especially in a city like this. But as an introvert, just going to events would leave me drained and wondering where my time went. I wanted more plans that energized me and felt worthwhile, ideally with a small group of people I'd actually want to see again.
Volunteering turned out to be a pretty great way to do both. You have something to do together, conversation happens naturally, and you leave things a little better than you found them.
But it was harder than I expected.
And it wasn't just me. I talked to people who wanted to volunteer but felt overwhelmed figuring out where to start. Nonprofits told me about volunteers signing up and not showing up, leaving them scrambling. Even experienced volunteers talked about burning out on the same tasks, or meeting interesting people they never got the chance to know.
The desire was there. But the experience needed to be redesigned. So I built something to make showing up easier.
You choose a time and neighborhood. Then make a donation for the nonprofit we're supporting that week to confirm your spot. We handle the rest.
Every event is small, hands-on, and built so you leave knowing the people you met, and knowing the work you did matters. No experience necessary.
Come see what you can do.WITH GOOD HUMANS
